Antimicrobial Stewardship: An Infection Preventionist's Perspective

Summary

As organism resistance increases and treatment options become limited, providers need to be aware how effectively and appropriately use antimicrobials. This presentation will explore how Infection Prevention and Control departments can partner with Pharmacy, Patient Safety, Risk, and Quality departments to create effective antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.

As well, the webinar will highlight antimicrobial stewardship as a priority in healthcare organizations and will review the components of building an antimicrobial stewardship program.

Speaker

Cindy Plante-Jenkins is an Infection Control Specialist at RL Solutions. She brings with her several years of infection prevention experience from her previous positions in acute care and complex continuing care facilities. Cindy has a BSc. in Medical Laboratory Sciences and her CIC from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology. Her keen interest in antimicrobial stewardship began while she was working on a regional initiative to limit hospital acquired C. difficile infections by introducing a standardized antimicrobial stewardship program.
