What is an HRO

High-reliability organizations, or HROs, operate under difficult conditions but their culture allows them to maintain a high degree of safety and low rates of harm. Becoming ‘highly-reliable’ is an ongoing journey, not a destination. It takes constant dedication and effort to maintain.

"The way we try to apply [HROs] in healthcare...they're systems that are very, very aware of any potential defects or errors."

Dr. Tom Peterson, MD, FAAP
Former VP, Chief Safety Officer at SCL Health
President of One Safety, LLC
